Mixed Messages Solo Exhibition

Over 500 Visitors Attend the Opening Night of ‘Mixed Messages’
Amaan Jahangir, an emerging artist from Birmingham, marked a major milestone with the successful debut of his first solo exhibition, Mixed Messages, at The Old Library on October 4th, 2024. The event, which featured over 32 of the artist's works, attracted more than 500 visitors, establishing Jahangir as a prominent artist within the city and promising figure to watch within the wider world of the visual arts.
The exhibition showcases Jahangir's unique approach to painting over digital artefacts and found objects, with each piece offering a compelling reflection upon the artist’s relationship with an ex-lover, his family, and, most importantly, himself. The collection was praised for its traversal of emotional vulnerability and toxicity within today’s digitally oriented world, captivating audiences with its wider conciliation of how identities and relationships are formed through screens.

‘In his attempts to reconcile his own past and old hurts through new artistic innovations and interventions, Amaan achieves a sort of reconciliation with himself, both as a human and as an artist, and arrives at certain human truths around the big, beautiful grey areas of life. Truths which transcend the surface of his artworks, which lift us up out of our screens, and exist in the wholly human realm of relatable contemporary experience. In our search to fix, or to be fixed, we remain unfixed, untethered. Yet also, unbothered, moisturised. In our lane. Always Googling, always searching, yearning, longing, recalling.’

-Art Curator and Critical Writer, Aniko Berman Mixed Messages was a one-night-only event, running from 6PM and 11PM during Digbeth First Friday event for October 2024. The exhibition included notable pieces ‘never been better’ , ‘fool’s paradise’ , and the trance, of which have garnered 4 million impressions from online audiences.Part of theseries will be auctioned at Christie's Auction House towards the end of the month.
